“Gather Your Friends, Choose a Yacht and Get Ready for the Summer of a Lifetime!”. The Yacht Week has repeatedly hit the headlines in publications such as Conde Nast, Tatler, The Sunday Times and The Guardian for it’s excellent business model and concept – providing affordable luxury and unforgettable events around the globe.
Watch this trailer for a quick peek – it’s not for the faint hearted……
2014 destinations include Italy, Greece, Croatia, BVI’s and Thailand and the boats on offer include everything from Bavaria’s, Beneteau’s, Footloose and Sunsail to Lagoon catamarans. Prices are reasonable, seven days (in peak summertime) will cost anything from €400 – €900 p/person depending on the boat you choose and how many people are in your group. But there are add-ons (compulsory wristbands, water, fuel and port fees) and by passing these costs to the client the folks at The Yacht Week really clean up.
Forbes reporter, J.J Colao, took a trip out to Croatia last year and met with owner, William Wenkel. Colao reported sales of approx. $9 million in 2013, compared to $7 million in 2012, they forecast to take $12 million in 2014 (profits were $350,000 in 2012, and jumped to nearly $900,000 last year). Exciting times lay ahead for Wenkel’s group which started operating in 2006.
The best part is the clients are having the times of their lives in a relatively safe environment. The skippers are strict and don’t tolerate drunken tomfoolery on board. This kind of holiday is a great way to drum up interest in boating and even though there is plenty of alcohol being consumed, clients are provided with a classy and colourful adventure experience.
The Yacht Week is part of a group owned by mother company European Travel Ventures who also run:
- The Ski Week – fresh off the mountain it’s first week will be in Austria this March
- Skipper Academy – who supply skippers to The Yacht Week party boats and international events (they approached us and asked if we could help them source high-quality staff)
- Yachts and Friends – offers a slick and highly competitive international boat charter service
What a breath of fresh air……
